BEIJING ZOO ADVENTURES

If I could be one animal in this world I would be… a PANDA! I absolutely love these cute fluffy creatures. Going to Beijing Zoo has been one of the main highlights of my trip. That morning before I left my apartment, I was so excited, I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face, I just wanted to get there! I’m an animal obsessed freak and love them all. I took my roommate with me on this adventure! She’s lived in China her whole life and has never been there before. It took 2 hours to get there by public transport, and 2 and a half hours home. We spent 6 hours walking around this maze of a zoo! I didn’t realize how big it was! The Internet map makes it look so small, but really, it’s almost the size of a whole city! There are so many animals, but only 2 pandas! About 30% of the animals there were all monkeys!
Everything was really expensive at the zoo, very over priced- although I guess that’s expected at a popular tourist venue. However, I saw no tourists, everyone was Chinese. I took my roommate out to lunch at an Italian restaurant there, and then she took me to an Australian café in the afternoon for decent caffeine hit. We were so exhausted by the end of the day; we had walked just over 12 kilometres! Talking about coffee, I could not believe the price of coffee at the zoo. $9 AUD for a small latte, with NO SOY milk. Thank god for my 5 boxes of Nurofen and Panadol to make it bearable to drink the regular milk here. The zoo café was called “Australian Café”, yet it was full of Chinese staff and the menu was all Chinese food? Please explain? I was a little disappointed, but did admire the Brisbane city photographs up on the wall.

Beijing Zoo was such a great experience! I haven’t been to a zoo since I was so young, I haven’t even been to Australia zoo and I’ve been living there for 7 years! I have been so lucky to have amazing roommates to help me out and show me around the city area. I’m so thankful to have met them and get along with them so well and hangout on the weekends. I’m now capable of heading to the city on my own and not getting lost!
