I can’t draw to save my life! I am terrible at putting pen to paper and drawing objects, except for love hearts. One day I was asked to help my colleague out on some new design ideas before a client meeting. I have no design experience at all, so really, I had no idea what I was supposed to do. The product was an air purifier for offices and hotel placement.

Over the space of 2 hours I had drawn 6 series of designs to show these clients. I thought they were terrible, but apparently they thought it was great. It was an interesting experience sitting in this meeting room for almost three hours speaking Chinese to these clients. It was a tough challenge and by the end of it, I was drooling for a coffee. It’s very exhausting communicating in a different language other than English, especially when English is your primary language.

I think I’ll just stick to my marketing work for now, I never realised how difficult design could be. It’s a complex procedure from the drafting drawings to then converting it all into a digital format and playing around with it on the computer.

The next day, I was invited out to the office of these clients for another meeting in their boardroom. Their office was located in the heart of the city, about a 40-minute drive from work and neighbouring the GOOGLE building! The meeting finished at 3pm, which meant we were able to finish work for the day and go home. By public transport it would’ve taken us 3 hours to get back to the office so we called it a day and went shopping in the city.
